Vilafranca is capital of the Denomination of Origin Penedès. The territory produces excellent wines and cava. In Vilafranca visitors will find a number of specialist wine shops where they can taste and learn about wines and cava. And in the entire region it is possible to purchase our acclaimed products.
During the celebration of fairs and festivals visitors also have the opportunity to learn more about wine culture and taste the many varieties of wine within the Denomination of Origin Penedès.

Catànies®
Catànies® are almonds coated with different types of chocolate and they are Vilafranca's most famous sweet. They are handmade and completely unique and are available in any of the town's bakeries and patisseries.
Olive oil, sausages and cheese
Vilafranca, and this region on the whole, produces excellent meats, cheeses and olive oil. These goods are sold in specialist shops or in the farmers' markets held every second Sunday of every month.

The poultry of Penedès
Penedès poultry and free-range chickens, which are still farmed traditionally on small-holdings in the Alt Penedès, are considered the star of Vilafranca's cuisine.
The highly-praised meat of the Black Cockerel, Gall Negre del Penedès, is a key ingredient in the food from this area and it is used in many recipes. The breeding of Penedès poultry follows a strict certification process and shops selling it are distinguished with a special stockist logo.
