Wine Architecture

The wine trade is the driving stimulus behind Vilafranca's buildings

Vilafranca lives and breathes wine and its architecture is not oblivious to this fact. There are buildings that either because of their current use or because of the reason they were created, live and breathe wine today.

And example and main artery to observe how the production and sale of wine led to new constructions is Carrer del Comerç, a street in a privilated location, especially in the early 20th century, due to being right next to the train station, a phenomenal transport medium for the sale of wine. All along the street wine cellars and warehouses or similar constructions can be seen.

Apart from the buildings for industrial use others were created such as the Vilafranca Oenological Station inaugurated in 1903, a building that has recently been restored and recovered for other uses.
