The Festa Major of Vilafranca del Penedès
Enjoy the most typical of fiestas.
Enjoy what is, undoubtedly, one of the most spectacular popular fiestas in Catalonia. An event that has preserved a similar structure since the 17th century and that includes religious and popular activities that fill the town's streets and squares, turning it into a living fiesta for everyone.
What makes the Festa Major of Vilafranca so unique, apart from shows of all kinds, is the extremely rich folklore heritage constituted by the great number of dances, the music of the gralles (a kind of woodwind instrument) and the extremely deeply-rooted tradition of castells (human towers).
It takes place between the 29 August and 2 September, and its high point is 30 August, the saint's day of Saint Fèlix, patron of Vilafranca. The Festa Major's key element lies in the participation of the people.
For the conservation of its folklore and cultural richness, it has been declared a Heritage Festival of National Interest.
